    for an extension of the Article 50 talks. Mrs May had no choice but to bend to their will.
    The government is now a collection of warring factions issuing rival ultimatums.
    The Conservative Party is falling apart.


    The civil service looks in vain for clear instructions from its masters.
    The blame for this miserable state of affairs lies squarely with Mr Rees-Mogg’s
    ERG, a collection of up to 100 MPs who claim to
    be conservatives but are in fact the closest thing that
    Britain has produced to sans culottes. British political parties
    have always contained pressure groups that try to influence their parties.

    But the ERG is more like a communist cell. The ERG acts as a
    party within a party. It has its own chief whip (Mark Francois) as well as its own leader (Mr Rees-Mogg) and deputy
    (Steve Baker).


    It meets regularly to decide its line and sends delegations
    to Downing Street to lay down the law to the prime minister.

    ERG members increasingly identify themselves as ERGers rather than mere Conservatives when they appear on television. The ERG is
    frequently closer to other Eurosceptic parties than it is to the left of the
    Conservative Party. ERGers have been willing to share platforms with current and former members of the
    UK Independence Party, such as Nigel Farage.
    They have a particular liking for the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party because of its spirit of besieged
    indomitability. The ERG also has a remarkable ability to operate as both an insider and an outsider at the same time.
    It has powerful supporters in the government,
    such as Liam Fox, the trade secretary, as well as on the backbenches.



    Some of its leading figures, such as Mr Baker, resigned from the
    government because they thought it was "betraying" Brexit.
    It also has an extra-parliamentary wing. Grassroots groups that grew up to support the
    Leave side in the referendum continue to co-ordinate with the ERG.
    ConservativeHome, a website, could be called ERGHome.
    The ERG has normalised behaviour that a few years ago
    would have been seen as unacceptable. ERGers have repeatedly defied the party
    whip. They have briefed the press against Mrs May and her supposed attempts to foil
    Brexit. They have resisted any dilution of the purity of Brexit, arguing that it means not just
    leaving the EU but also its customs union and
    single market.


    Some of them have even endorsed the idea of de-selecting Tory MPs who
    don’t agree with them, a tactic normally associated with
    the far left. Yet the ERG has produced a backlash as Remainer MPs have
    concluded that, when a noisy faction runs riot, they are no longer bound by the old gentlemanly rules.

    The three Tory MPs who recently left the party to join the new Independent Group issued a colour-confused warning that the Conservative Party was in danger of being taken over by "purple Momentum" and becoming "blueKIP".

    Others are adopting ERG-style methods from within the party, such as issuing co-ordinated threats of
    resignation and writing impassioned op-eds in the Daily
    Mail. The ERG has found itself competing for influence
    with other rebellious factions. This tit-for-tat behaviour is rapidly leading to the
    complete ERGification of the British right.



    The Tories are quickly splitting into two parties with rival power
    structures and agendas. The great question is how long it will last.
    For a depressing answer, look at America. For all their difference in sartorial style—the
    one is as neat as the other is scruffy—the person that Mr Rees-Mogg most resembles
    is Newt Gingrich. Mr Gingrich succeeded in breaking
    American politics by applying a similar combination of ideological zeal and toxic methods
    to the Republican Party. The ERG faces bigger barriers than Mr Gingrich did.
    In Britain the ruling party has juicier plums to offer MPs,
    in the form of government jobs. Party leaders can more easily set the tone in the
    national party—if, unlike Mrs May, they are capable of exercising leadership.
    On the other hand, the European question shows no sign of
    going away. British politics is not quite as broken as American politics.
    But thanks to Mr Rees-Mogg and his wrecking crew, it is
    getting there fast.


    Contra Barack Obama, there is a white America and a black America.
    There are also varying versions of Latino and Hispanic Americas across different regions of the country.
    There are robust, enduring differences in belief across races and communities about just what America’s identity should be and how politics are experienced, and they in turn create the political reality of the country.
    Partisan politics arise from these differences,
    and exploit them. And these differences might be structural, informed by the basic fact of human geography,
    a geography itself built on the fact of American apartheid.

    A new poll conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and The Atlantic delves into these differences, and finds distinct racial outlooks on the
    most fundamental issues of American identity and values.
    The PRRI/Atlantic poll, a random survey of slightly
    more than 1,000 people taken in December, reveals major differences among racial groups on some of the basic questions about what makes America America, and
    what makes Americans so. A strong majority of white respondents—59
    percent—think that speaking English is a very
    important part of being American.


    The government will allow MPs to hold indicative votes on a consensus way forward for Brexit if
    departure is delayed for a long period, it announced during the
    latest Commons debate on the subject. This has long been demanded by some MPs.
    One of the amendments to Thursday’s motion, tabled by the Labour backbencher Hilary Benn,
    seeks to allow MPs to seize control of the process to allow this to happen. Lidington, however, urged the Commons not to choose this route, saying a longer extension would require the UK to take
    part in the European parliament elections in 10 weeks, and would damage faith in politics.
    "But we should be clear about the consequences if that were to happen. If we are in the world of a longer extension, for this house to come to a decision, then we will be required as a condition to hold European parliamentary elections in May.


    The employment at will concept has both advantages and disadvantages for both the employer and the employee. Employers looking to take advantage of this doctrine should have a good knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages. They should also understand how it will protect the company. Most states allow "at-will" employment, but a company still needs valid reasons to fire an employee to avoid legal complications. Very often the people at the receiving end consider it as an act of treachery and fire the employee from the job. More than fifty-five US laws incorporate an "anti-retaliation"
    clause that protects such whistleblowers, but still people
    lose their jobs for whistle blowing. This article explains the reasons why
    employees lose their jobs owing to this reason and explore actual cases of wrongful termination filed by whistleblowers against their employers.




    From the perspective of an employee who is terminated from a job, unions cannot always protect the job.
    Unions can nevertheless, ensure the employer complies with legal requirements such as the WARN Act, pay the stipulated termination benefits and allow employees
    their rights such as COBRA. Unions may also assist the employee to fight
    the case in court if they suspect unlawful or
    discriminatory termination. Employees laid off are within their rights to claim any promised severance pay, settlement of outstanding salary, and COBRA benefits.

    Unfortunately, the media has been doing a pretty good job of attacking Christianity,
    as well as Christian institutions or events. The 46th Annual March
    for Life took place in Washington, D.C. Jan. 18.
    Not only did the major broadcast networks like ABC, CBS and
    NBC barely mention the March for Life, but they gave
    the Women’s March three times more media coverage
    on-air. When the March for Life was mentioned, it was mostly negative.
    For example, Huffington Post picked out a small
    piece of Ben Shapiro’s pro-life speech, in which he said he would not kill baby Hitler.
    Karen Pence also took a giant hit from the media and Hollywood for teaching at a Catholic school in Virginia.



    The mainstream media has twisted or left major parts out of these stories to push their
    agenda or create unnecessary drama. It needs to end. Several media outlets covered and published stories about teenage boys from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky, harassing
    a man by the name Nathan Philips who is a member of an indigenous tribe.
    A video, which appeared to show the boys harassing Phillips, was
    quickly shared all over the news and social media.
    However, the media completely botched this story.
    The media was so quick to judge Nick Sandmann, the main boy in the video, before
    the whole video surfaced.


    It showed that it happened to be the other way around:
    Philips and his tribe actually approached the teenagers and were harassing them.
    The media had already completely destroyed Sandmann’s name, his school, his family
    and his life for their own benefit. Once the major media outlets realized they'd messed up, instead of apologizing, they tried to do
    everything that they could to find evidence of any
    kind to destroy these boys and the Catholic school they attended.
    Another example of the media attacking Christians is the toxic comments
    about Karen Pence. Recently, the vice president's wife was slandered in the news for
    teaching at Immanuel Christian school in Virginia.

    There was an uproar in the media because the Christian school does not accept the LGBTQ dogma
    from the employees or the students. The policies at this Virginia school should not be a surprise to people
    considering that the Christian faith has had this set of beliefs for centuries.



    Last week, we celebrated Mardi Gras, better known as Fat Tuesday —
    the beginning of the season of Lent. In 40 days, we’ll celebrate Easter — the resurrection of Jesus Christ which
    changed everything, including the calendar. Even in cultures
    around the world that either don’t know about Christianity or choose another
    religion, their calendar is still moving
    in the time of Anno Domini — in the Year of Our Lord.
    That is an amazing fact that the birth of Jesus is memorialized to this day by our very
    calendar! People who do not even know Him are
    still counting their days with a Gregorian calendar dedicated to Him.
    Easter marks the end of Lent, the 40 days of fasting and abstinence that began with Fat Tuesday and Ash
    Wednesday. Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the regular calendar.



    It always occurs during the spring in March or April. Easter
    is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism as well
    as by its position in the calendar. Passover and Easter are interchangeable terms in many European languages, so the similarities are
    even greater for the early Christians who translated the Bible.
    Secular customs, such as the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts,
    have become part of the holiday’s modern celebrations and are often observed by Christians and non-Christians alike.
    The New Testament teaches the resurrection of Jesus, which Easter celebrates,
    is a foundation of the Christian faith. The resurrection established
    Jesus as the true Son of God. Easter is strongly connected
    to the Passover and Exodus from Egypt outlined in great detail in the Old Testament.
    In the New Testament, however, Jesus gave the Passover meal
    a new meaning.


    He said to his disciples, "Do this in remembrance of me," as
    he prepared himself and his disciples for his death in the upper room during the
    Last Supper. He took the bread and the chalice of wine and said that it represented His body and blood.
    Jesus, as the Passover lamb, was crucified at roughly the
    same time as the Passover lambs were being slain in the temple.
    To this day, on Good Friday at 3 p.m. Every Friday during Lent,
    many Christians observe the Stations of the Cross — 14 points on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem
    from the Lions’ Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.



    This is one of the most powerful Lenten traditions, even more so than fasting and abstinence.

    Speaking of fasting and abstaining, it is also a longstanding
    tradition to fast (eat one meal a day or none at all) and
    abstain from meat on Fridays of Lent. This has led
    to many restaurants having fish and seafood specials on Friday nights.
    Why is Easter on a moveable date? It’s determined on a
    lunisolar calendar similar to the Hebrew calendar.
    The equinox occurs on March 21; therefore Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25.

    There are 35 potential Easter dates.

    a condition that was then known as manic depression. She used to hide herself away.
    It’s hereditary, it was passed on to me. I’m autistic and diagnosed bipolar.
    But back in the 1970s I spent more time standing in the
    playground than I did being educated.


    I was an unruly, horrible little child. I got whacked a lot.
    But my condition remained undiagnosed and I never got any help.
    I used to have dreadlocks and I didn’t fit in. Later on I became a chef,
    working in Suffolk. I worked and worked and
    worked, I had children and a house. But I was never
    at home. Christmas, New Year. My marriage fell apart.
    I took on more work, I wanted to be the best chef there is.
    The pressure got so much and the alcohol was always in front of me.
    The world of hospitality is littered with drugs and alcohol.
